Project Description
Project Overview
When Southampton City Council embarked on a programme of energy conservation works on it’s residential housing blocks, involving external wall insulation (EWI) and re-roofing works, BBR Roofing were appointed as roofing sub-contractor for several of the 16 storey and 3 storey blocks.
Following roof surveys and specifications by IKO, the roofs were either overlaid or stripped up and renewed according to their condition.
The IKO specification called for the installation of a high performance UltraPrevent bituminous felt system, incorporating tapered insulation to not only provide the required thermal upgrade of the building but to also provide adequate rainwater drain-age from the roofs.
As all of the blocks were fully occupied it was necessary to keep the buildings completely watertight during the course of the works, and also to carry out the re-roofing with the minimum of disruption or disturbance to the residents.
Working in close co-operation with the clients and main contractors, the roofing works were carried out efficiently, and were consistently described as being “of a high standard” by the IKO Field Engineer, who subsequently signed them off for a twenty-five year IKO guarantee.
