Project Overview

The roof covering at St Johns Shopping centre in Liverpool had seen better days at it had come to the end of its natural life cycle. BBR was the successful roofing contractor engaged by the client Land Securities to refurbish and up-grade the existing waterproof system. After liaising with the nominated water-proofing manufacture Tremco, a no heat system was chosen for logistical and financial reasons.

Critical elements of the project were that the works had to be completed to a tight programme without disruption to the operation of the shopping centre or the adjacent multi storey car park. By using a no heat system a programme could be devised so that there was no disruption to the shopping centres operations. Plant and air-conditioning systems could be maintained throughout the programme without undue odours from hot bitumen filtering through the air handling system. BBR roofing was able to work continuously in areas where traditional waterproofing systems would require plant to be decommissioned.

The works were phased in such a way that only minimal areas of the roof was exposed at any one time so protection the tenants below in terms of possible water penetration.
